Nuclear Astrophysics Experiments in ATOMKI Gy. Gyürky Institute of Nuclear Research (ATOMKI) Debrecen, Hungary
Institute of Nuclear Research (ATOMKI) • Nuclear Astrophysics group: • Z. Elekes • Gy. Gyürky • Zs. Fülöp • G.G. Kiss • E. Somorjai Debrecen
Accelerator facilities • 1 MV and 5MV Van de Graaff accelerator microbeam, talk by Alíz Simon tomorrow • 20 MeV cyclotron proton and alpha energy range from 300 keV to 20 MeV • ECR ion source • tandem for AMS (in installation)
Nuclear astrophysics: p-process • production mechanism of heavy, proton rich isotopes (p-nuclei) • for the p-process modeling huge reaction network is needed • reaction rates are taken from statistical models experimental check necessary • proton and alpha capture cross section measurements • alpha elastic scattering experiments
Capture cross section measurements Astrophysically important energy range for • (p,) reactions: 1-5 MeV 5MV Van de Graaff accelerator • (,) reactions: 5-15 MeV 20 MeV cyclotron measured cross sections compared with model calculations Measurements directly in the Gamow window!!!
70Ge(p,)71As G.G. Kiss et al., Phys Rev C, submitted
Alpha elastic scattering experiments • Optical model potentials (OMP) are used in statistical model calculations • OMP can be derived from elastic scattering experiments • The measured angular distribution can be compared with global OMPs • Experiments carried out with the cyclotron near the Coulomb barrier
Collaborations • Notre Dame University, USA • TU Darmstadt, Germany • Demokritos, Athens, Greece • Kocaeli University, Turkey • University of Basel, Switzerland
Other activities in nuclear astrophysics • Complementary studies for the LUNA collaboration. Example: test of the beam stop purity used for the 3He(,)7Be experiments D. Bemmerer et al. Phys Rev. Lett. 97 (2006) 122502. Gy. Gyürky et al. Phys Rev. C75 (2006) 035805. • 7Be isotope production for various purposes • Application of the Trojan Horse Method. Example: p+p elastic scattering measured via the p+d p+p+n reaction A. Tuminoet al. Phys Rev. Lett. 98 (2007) 252502.
ATOMKI experiment previous THM data two body p+p cross section from p+d p+p+n reaction A. Tumino et al. Phys Rev. Lett. 98 (2007) 252502.
