Thermoelectric Engine • This apparatus has been developed to demonstrate the conversion of heat into electricity and hence into useful work. Module Cold Side Hot Side Fan Motor Spirit Burner
Working Principle • Thermoelectric engine is designed on the principle of utilizing Seebeck Effect • Seebeck Effect, When a junction of different conducting materials is subjected to a temperature difference, an electric potential is generated that is capable of supplying DC current to a circuit or load. MOAZ HASSAN
Technical Aspects • Thermoelectric Module • Bismuth Telluride, Lead Telluride and Silicon-Germanium alloys emerged as the best for operating to temperatures of about 450K, 900K and 1400K respectively. • The pairs of P/N pellets are configured so that they are connected electrically in series, but thermally in parallel. • Procedure • The heat input is supplied by a spirit lamp and therefore the rate of fuel supply can be measured. The temperatures of the hot and cold surfaces may be recorded. • On open circuit the generator has an emf of about 2volts and the maximum current is about 1 amp and from this the output can readily be measured. Applications • Thermoelectric Cooling, Heating • House hold things, small laser diode coolers, portable refrigerators, scientific thermal conditioning, liquid coolers. • Thermoelectric Power Generation • Waste Heat Energy Recovery (Thermo Electric Engine “TEG” recovers the heat form a Combustion Engine). • Remote telecommunication, navigation, and petroleum installations. Module MOAZ HASSAN
