On the library’s Home page, click on “Are you interested in…”. This will bring up a new menu, which includes “New to Canada”. Click on this link. http://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/main/overview
You have opened the section for “Newcomers to Canada”. The first link is to “Find materials in your language”. You can find books, DVDs, CDs and a range of material in 11 languages.
TAKE A LOOK IN PROGRAMS FOR NEWCOMERS Select “All branches” or limit to the branch nearest you. The event type “Newcomers” will bring up programs relevant to those new to Canada, such as “Money Smarts” offered at the Alta Vista branch in April. Some branches have conversation groups or workshops on topics of interest. You can limit the audience to “Adult” or other age groups, or see what is available for all groups.
Library Settlement Workers can be contacted at several branches. Find a settlement worker at the library. Languages spoken, location, and hours available are listed, along with contact information.
Computer Resources … can be accessed at home with your library card bar code and PIN. There are also Chinese periodicals,andresources to learn French.

The Library Video is available in 17 languages, including Arabic, Bengali, Dari, English, Farsi, Filipino, French, Gujarati, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Pashto, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tamil and Urdu. The video is about 12 minutes long and explains various aspects of library services to newcomers, including getting a library card, story time at the library, finding information such as employment or for a school project, and the summer reading club.
