  1. Senior Verifier Update Robert Laird Administration and IT (VG363/389)

  2. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Limited activity, in line with SQA sampling plan • Visiting and Central Verification • Prior Verification of Centre-devised instruments of assessment • Development visits provided good support to centres

  3. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Revised Framework • Additional time allocated to Graded Unit 1, Paper 2 had a positive impact on the student responses

  4. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Good Practice • Good evidence of technology used to support the Graded Unit Project (Wikis enabled good communication between assessor and candidate)

  5. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Good Practice • Good examples of electronic feedback to students, using Virtual Learning Environments • Use of Content Management Systems to ensure that appropriate staff have access to up-to-date materials and assessment • Continued use of anti-plagiarism software and other mechanisms to ensure authenticity of candidate evidence

  6. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Development Points • Where units are being delivered by more than one department/section, there needs to be standardisation to ensure consistency • Where Centres produce alternative assessments, it is advisable to use the prior-verification service offered by SQA

  7. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Development Points • Where assessment and internal verification of materials was completed electronically, Centres should have procedures in place to ensure that the work submitted by the candidate and comments by the assessor are clear. • Candidates would benefit from guidance on referencing skills

  8. Feedback on External Verification Activity – AY2010-11 • Development Points • Centres should be mindful of the level of support given to candidates undertaking the Graded Unit Project. The assessor can provide reasonable support and advice. Remediation is not possible.
