Homework • Each student should have a Take Home Binder, this will be for homework and daily communication. We will insert a folder in it for any work or important papers that I send home. Please check the folder nightly. • The students will receive a monthly “Spelling Menu” at the beginning of each month. Spelling words will come home every Monday on the Homework Log. They will choose activities from the menu, or self-created, to practice their words.
Homework • Students should also read at least 15 minutes per night. It can be independent or with someone. • On the log- write the spelling activity and the title of the book that was read. • Parents, you only need to sign the log at the end of the week- this tells me that you know they practiced their words & read. They do not need to turn in the actual activity, just the log. I will only be checking the logs on FRIDAY. • Math will come from the Math Homework workbook. Math Homework will be assigned on Monday as well. The students will have all week to complete the work and it should come back in the binder on Friday. This book stays inside the binder as well.

Math Videos • The second grade teachers created math videos that will show you how a strategy is being used with examples. This will help you understand what your child is doing and will help with any math homework assigned. • Go to the Evans City webpage • Teacher Websites • Under ‘S’, “Second Grade” • Videos are listed by the math units • Find the video you need and enjoy • https://www.svsd.net/Domain/308
Positive Behavior Our classroom is focused on positive behavior! Students can earn Caught Being Good tickets throughout the day. These will convert into Class Dojo points at the end of the day. There are NO negative points. Students will get a “hole punch” on a chart if they earned tickets and/or points for the day. They will use their ticket chart to turn in for prizes once they have filled them.
Conferences • There is a conference sign-up sheet on the reading table near the window. • Conferences will be held on Monday, November 12th from 8:15-3:30. • If you are unable to sign up today, there will be a sign up page sent home closer to that date.
Transportation • This year, classroom teachers are not allowed to accept transportation changes electronically. • If any transportation changes during the school day, you MUST call the office. • If your child is a special pick-up (car rider or early dismissal) and he/she has siblings in another grade, who will also be a special pick-up, ALL students must bring in a note so that every teacher is aware.
