What exactly is EQ? Emotions- the feelings, reactions a person often has, in response to a real or imagined relationship. Intelligence- the ability to reason with, or about, something. Neurobiology - emotions as data Emotional intelligence : Not an abstract notion – grounded in neurobiology. Emotions are: • Neural hormones • Long chains of amino acids – hippocampus, pituitary, blood • Brain but also heart, gut, spine • Into the blood stream via capillaries and carry ‘keys’ • Feedback loops • Feedback in the body and between bodies
