Wexford County Council Waste Collection Service 16, 483 Customers, supplied with 2 bins – Waste & Recycling 28 % of overall waste collected by WCC diverted from landfill by Kerbside Collection Service 4,200 ton of dry recyclable waste collected in 2009 Brown Bin –approximately 10,000 customers will be offered a brown bin which will divert a further 2000 ton of waste from landfill. Waste Management Brown Bin Service currently at pilot stage and will be rolled out in Enniscorthy town and Wexford Town later this year.
Network of Recycling Facilities in County Wexford 2 Recycling Centres – Holmestown Waste Management Facility & New Ross Recycling Centre 123 sites for glass and cans and 28 sites for Newspapers. 3328 tonnes of glass and cans collected in 2009. Holmestown Waste Management wood pellet burner heating system, solar panel for lighting and water heating, wind powered flood lights and a wind turbine for electricity. Increased use of recycled materials (e.g. road planings) in road construction Increased use of cold mixes (e.g. stabilised wet mix) in road construction, as opposed to hot mix macadams Increased use of low temperature bitumens in surface dressing operations. Reduced from 140ºC to 85ºC Overall impact in energy savings and reduced discharges to the atmosphere. Roads
