Why Is This Trip Important? “Learning Away has shown that a residential learning experience provides opportunities and benefits and impacts that cannot be achieved in any other educational context or setting. The impact is greater when residentials are fully integrated with a school’s curriculum and ethos.” (Learning Away Final Evaluation Report, York Consulting, 2015) A residential stay at Dell Farm is a great chance for children to experience a mix of adventure activities and cross-curricular outdoor learning. The rich learning opportunities will also help to build self- confidence, resilience and self- esteem, all of which are important for positive behaviours and improving attitudes to learning. This may be your child’s first trip away from home so it is important for us that they (and you!) feel safe and happy so that they can enjoy this unique experience. Programmes are developed in conjunction with teaching staff and activities can have a specific curriculum focus, or can be cross- curricular in design. All visits are built around the needs of the children and the schools desired learning outcomes.
What Will The Children Learn? • The centre has duties which all groups are asked to undertake. The main aim of these duties is to encourage young people to take a shared responsibility for their well-being whilst at the centre. In performing them, they will gain important life skills as well as gaining teamwork skills and a sense of shared purpose, resulting in increased confidence and self-esteem. • These include: • Making their beds • Keeping their dormitory tidy (there is a prize for the tidiest dorm at the end of the week!!) • Helping at meal times • Taking care of equipment • Behaving in a sensible manner, taking responsibility for their own needs and those of others. • Being responsible for their own belongings and personal hygiene. contributing towards the general tidiness of Centre.
What To Bring We hope that your child is excited to be coming on a Residential Visit to Dell Farm and can assure you they will have a fantastic time during their stay! We request that all items are packed in a small suitcase but preferably a soft holdall type bag as luggage has to be stored under the bunks. Avoid sending your child with new or ‘good’ clothes as they may get very dirty and spoilt!! Children should bring along a book to read and maybe a small suitable game to play. They may also like to bring along a favourite soft toy or teddy. Please do not send your child with a mobile phone, tablet or other electronic device. Everything your child brings should be clearly named.
Suggested Kit List October to March - bring extra warm layers!
