Andrew Hutton Closing Remarks
Frascati Conference • Great success • 48 participants from all over the world • There is a lot of interest in short bunches • Creating short bunches • Measuring short bunches • Using short bunches • Several new experiments proposed • All are very interesting • Several major projects proposed • BESSY, APS
Questions about DAΦNE • DAΦNE will terminate the present experimental program in 2007-8 • DAΦNE could be converted to an accelerator physics research machine • Is an accelerator physics experimental program on DAΦNE a good idea? • Is the experiment to study bunch length modulation in DAΦNE a good idea?
Next Workshop • Propose another workshop in about 1 year • Suggest USA • APS? • LBL/SLAC? • Other? • Suggest widening topics to include linacs and FELs, not only storage rings • Many common problems, particularly in the diagnostics
Proposal for Collaboration • I would like to propose the creation of an international collaboration on short electron bunches • Similar to an experimental collaboration • Would foster collaboration between all of the people in the world interested in creating and studying short bunches • Led by two (three?) spokespersons • Spokespersons from different continents
Collaboration Functions • Coordinate all activities on short bunches • Collaboration could propose experiments • International collaboration more likely to get beam time • Collaboration could develop a plan to integrate experiments in multiple centers to cover entire field • Members of collaboration could support each other • Share diagnostics • Provide simulation and theoretical calculations
