    4. What do I mean by self awareness? A recognition of our individual personalities, strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, qualities and values. Why is it so important when were thinking about choices for the future?.. If we have a better understanding of ourselves were much more likely to be able to make more informed decisions. Can be very powerful in enabling us to make changes and also gives us confidence and links into our goal setting. Get students to work in pairs and discuss what they think is important to them in a job. E.g working with other people, helping other people, working outside, using my numeracy skills, having lots of autonomy, using my creative skills, earning lots of money etc. The get the students to each identify their top 3. Its only when we begin to think about whats important to us and what our skills, qualities and academic abilities are that we can begin to see jobs/careers that we would rule in or out for the future. 7. A job for life?...... Realistically, its hard to imagine someone working for the same company for all their working life. Depending on the industry (and company) it isnt unusual to see annual turnover rates of 15%-20% or more. The reality is that a career change is something you will probably experience several times during your working life Current employees in the UK will change their jobs on average 8-10 times over their career lifetimes By the time you are in your 30s (in the workforce) this is likely to rise to 10-20 times We no longer live in a world where you can leave school and walk straight into a job/training Realistically, its hard to imagine someone working for the same company for all their working life.
