  3. The joint consist of 3 compartment: Medial Tibiofemoral Lateral Tibiofemoral Patellofemoral Joint Lines: Femoral condyles Tibial Plateaus Anatomy

  4. Anatomy • Meniscal Cartilage : • Medial • Lateral

  5. Anatomy • Ligaments: • Ant & Post Cruciate • Med & Latt Collateral

  6. Anatomy • Bursa: • Prepattelar • Inferapattelar • Anserin • Tendons • Muscles

  7. Etiology of Knee Pain • meniscal or ligamentous injury or fracture • Patellar malalignment or dysfunction • Cartilage loss due to osteoarthritis or synovitis • Periarticular bursitis or tendonitis • Referred pain from the hip, femur, or spine • Inflammatory arthritides (synovitis)

  8. Pattern of Knee Pain • Medial (the most common) • Anterior • Popliteal (Posterior) • Lateral

  9. Etiology of Medial Knee Pain • medial compartment osteoarthritis • bursitis • medial collateral ligament strain (the most frequently injured ligament) • medial meniscal tear

  10. bursitis • anserine the most frequently inflamed bursa & the bursa adjacent to the medical collateral ligament

  11. Etiology of Medial joint line pain • osteoarthritis • medial collateral ligament injuries • medial meniscal tears • fractures of the tibial plateau • Medial tibial plateau pain : anserine bursitis

  12. Etiology of Anterior Knee Pain • acute prepatellar bursitis swelling and inflammatory change anterior to the patella

  13. Etiology of Anterior Knee Pain • patellar tendonitis or jumper's knee Focal at the inferior pole of the patella

  14. Etiology of Anterior Knee Pain • Osgood Schlatter disease Focal at the tibial tubercle

  15. Etiology of Anterior Knee Pain • inflammatory arthritis(RA, gout & pseudogout) [Diffuse + swelling and inflammatory change ] • septic arthritis [Diffuse + swelling and inflammatory change ] • patellofemoral syndrome(Bilateral ) • advanced osteoarthritis(Bilateral ) • large knee effusions & injury to the quadriceps • Plicae

  16. Etiology of Popliteal Knee Pain • Post Cruciate trauma • Post Capsular trauma • Tibial Neuritis • Baker's cyst • Synovitis • Meniscal abnormalities • Inflamation of any of post tendons

  17. Etiology of Lateral Knee Pain& Lateral joint line pain • Lateral compartment osteoarthritis • injuries to the lateral collateral ligament • lateral meniscal tears

  18. Etiology of Lateral Knee Pain • Iliotibial Band Friction Syndromeor Runner's knee Pain on the outer side of the knee
