Why it is fonded • Kahff Hookah Bar is decorated to give the Lebanese customers, who come very often to the hookah bar, a hometown feeling and create an atmosphere like the one in Lebanon. The place is decorated in Lebanese style, and the walls are full of historical and interesting pictures of Lebanon. The pictures remind the people who have been in Lebanon of their visiting there and bring up lovely memories to their minds. Loudly, Lebanese people talk in Arabic language in the bar like if they were in their hometown.
My visit • As I went there I felt for a while like I was in Lebanon. The Arabic conversations and the old Lebanese classical songs that turn on the place gave me the feeling that I was in Lebanon. There were many flags in the place: Lebanon, Kuwait, American, and Saudi Arabia which were gifts for the owner from his customer. The flags are showing that the place is welcoming all Arab and non-Arab customers to experience the Lebanese culture. Furthermore, the two male waiters who speak with Arab customers in Arabic language give senses that the place is presented the Lebanese culture. The red fancy sofas that arranged on the both left and right sides present the style of hookah bar in Lebanon. The red color as believed in Lebanon is give sense of relaxation and imagination. Thus, show that the place decoration was chosen carefully to indicate the Lebanese hookah bar.
Historical Context • A hookah also known as a waterpipe has been invented by a physician named "Hakim Abu’l-FatḥGilani". Seeking to make the smoking of tobacco much healthier, Dr. Gliani presented the hookah. “He believed that the smoke would be purified by passing it through water and would thus improve the health of the smoker” (The cigar guy). Dr. Gilan was from India which clears the idea that the hookah is belongs to Indian’s culture not for Arab as most of the people think. Although the design of hookah we have now is made by a Egyptian designer, the origin of this invention belongs to India. The hookah speared out from India to reach Middle East in general which have today the highest rate of hookah smokers in the world. The Middle Eastern people idolized hookah and considered as inspiration habit thus the hookah associated with Arab’s culture.
