What is unique about ENGAGE-NM? THE VOICE OF INDUSTRY IS OUR PRIMARY DRIVER OF AGENDA AND PROGRAMMING NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONS ARE INTERESTED IN NEW MEXICO AND COMMITTING RESOURCES TO A FUTURE KNOWLEDGE WORKFORCE (Cisco, Microsoft, Intel, Lenovo, IBM, SAS, Fidelity, Bank of America) INDUSTRY PARTNERING ACROSS THE STATE IN A UNIFIED WAY TO PROMOTE STEM EDUCATION
What must happen next? • “STEM Seed” money from industry, State and Government to begin the work • Statewide Awareness Campaign • Industry buy-in/partnership for action • Assess industry needs – future job needs in NM (work with NM First and NM Econ. Development)
What can this “seed money” do? • Fund scholarships to underserved students • Fund awareness campaign for New Mexico • Create internships across the State • Allow access to Virtual mentors, virtual tours of New Mexico museums (disseminated through IDEAL-NM), other mentoring opportunities • Allow for assessment of existing STEM programs • Development of STEM elective modules on IDEAL-NM
