  1. Snowy Owl Get them!!! RUN!!! By Stephanie Seoul Int’l School Class 4A 2007 Oh boy.

  2. Basic Facts A snowy owl is mostly white with dark spots. It has a black bill, yellow binocular eyes, and a rounded head. It is 20 to 27 inches long and weighs 3.5 to 4.5 pounds. A male is whiter than the female. Its ears are hidden under its feathers. It also has a circle of feathers around its eyes to give an alert look.

  3. Habitat The snowy owl lives in the Arctic. They settle in the exposed tundra. Snowy owls do not nest in trees. Instead, they live on the snowy ground of the tundra.

  4. Adaptations One adaptation is that in the summer, a snowy owl’s feathers change to camouflage in the nature around them. Another adaptation is that it has feathers on its legs for keeping warm. Also, when snowy owls have mated, its eggs blend in with the snow.

  6. Fun Facts • A snowy owl’s feathers on its wings dovetail and break up air, making flight silent. • Snowy owls cannot move their eyes but they can turn their heads 270 degrees. • In the summer, the Arctic does not get dark so snowy owls do hunt in daylight.
