This is a manual for using wikispace to share your research project findings and design project outcome. First, please send an email to: realtimecities@gmail.com so that I can invite you to the wikispace as a collaborator Second, please go to http://realtimecities.wikispaces.com/ and sign in so that you are able to contribute to the wiki Third, for each exercise contribute your findings to the wiki as explained in the following slides
This is the first page of the wiki Please add your name and email address in alphabetical order to the list of graduate investigators.
Name your page following the naming convention. And also make sure that you are choosing the right template as the base of your page.
Add descriptive tags that are separated by commas to make your page easier to find on the wikiplatform . For the case studies the descriptive tags can correspond to the high-level category of urban cybernetic practices discussed in the assignment hand out for the case studies. Then, hit the create button to create the new page on the system.
The page is created and you are directed to page edit interface
For each contribution, keep in mind that the following subsections are required: Project Name, Project Credits, Project Brief Description, Project Most Representative Images, Project Video, Project Analysis. For adding images under Project Most Representative Images – and keep in mind that each image needs a descriptive capton- hit the File button in the edit toolbar
You are directed to image and files window where you can upload files Take note of naming convention when you are uploading your image files: Project Name-image01.jpg Project Name-image02.jpg
Once an image is uploaded and properly embedded, clicking on the embedded image allows you to change its alignment and size . Resize your images so that they have the same width as the dotted line.
Add the proper caption to each image that you add to the page.
In order to embed videos you need to at first either upload or find the video on Youtube. In case that you are uploading the video, use the youtube account information provided on the wikispace to sign in and upload your videos. Once you upload your video under this account it will appear under the channel of the account
For a found or uploaded video, if you choose the share and then embed option, you will get access to the embed code of the video on youtube platform.
Put the cursor in the specified area of the page and then choose widget from the tool bar.
The video is placed on the wikispace page and if you click on it an edit toolbar appears from where you can edit the alignment and size of the video.
For the Project Analysis portion, you need to submit a PowerPoint presentation for each analyzed project. In the PowerPoint presentation various questions included in the handout of the exercise should be clearly and separately addressed. In order to embed the powerpoint presentation , you need to upload it to a website called scribd.com . You can find the account information of our course on this platform on the wiki. Once the powerpoint file is properly uploaded to scribd website, you need to copy its embed code
On the wikispace platform, choose widget button from the page edit toolbar
Paste the embed code that you have copied from scribd website to the allocated area
The powerpoint will show up in the wikipage. If you click on it a toolbar will appear from where you can modify the size and alignment of your powerpoint presentation. Also, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO ADD A PDF VERSION OF THE FILE TO THE PAGE FOR DOWNLOAD
Save the page that you have created so that it is included in the wikispace
Once you have added a page for a project, make sure you add the link of the page under your name in the wikipage that is dedicated to Assignment 01.
