Transcendentalism Definition A philosophical/literary movement that believes in the unity of all creation. It also considers that human nature contains something that transcends, or goes beyond ordinary experience. For transcendentalists, each person is divine; therefore, trusting or relying on the self is actually trusting in God, who speaks within humans. Five Themes: Nonconformity, Self-Reliance, Free Thought, Confidence, & Importance of Nature.
