  2. Mission Statement The Labrador Friendship Centre will endeavor to provide the best possible services to enrich the lives of the Inuit, Innu and Métis of Labrador through the provision and implementation of social, cultural, health, educational, employment, and developmental initiatives.

  3. The Labrador Friendship Centre is one of 120 Friendship Centres across Canada. Our Centre in itself is pleased to be part of an Innovative Association movement to serve the Aboriginals in our community • The Friendship Centre Movement is unique in the broad spectrum of specialized services it provides to urban Aboriginal people across Canada and is a true testament to Innovation and Collaboration

  10. Priority #1 (switched to #2) Using a “housing first” approach develop accessible, individual, housing units for people with multiple and complex needs. Along with placement of clients, it is intended the Housing Development Worker will coordinate the wrap-around services to ensure a long term stay.

  11. Priority #2 (switched to #1) Create a Housing Development/ Coordination role in order to support collaborations and facilitate planning. Specifically the role will involve assistance to agencies as they develop increased housing and the wrap around services consumers need for success

Housing and Homelessness Caseworker • Provide support and encouragement to client’s during move in stages, assist clients in housing searches, provide direct support and act as a resource/ liaison with workers and support service agencies • Provide flexible, intensive individual support and follow-up to the clients and assist them to find and maintain permanent housing • Do regular check-ins with the clients to reduce the risk of social-isolation and, when possible, develop peer support connections • Work with clients to assist in punctual rental payment (e.g. by accompanying clients to the bank, setting up direct payments, etc.) • Deal with and support clients to maintain housing while addressing behavior which affects the clients’ ability to retain housing (e.g. personal habits, social isolation, mental health, addictions, personal hygiene, etc.) • Educate clients about their responsibilities as tenants in order to maintain housing, and about the Residential Tenancies Act • Intervene with client and housing provider to reduce the risk of eviction. Negotiate and mediate conflict with landlords and clients
