  4. NorthCarolina • Bird: Cardinal • Capital: Raleigh • Flower: Dogwood North Carolina has a coast on the Atlantic Ocean. (always nice for vacations  ) Did you know…President Andrew Johnson was born in North Carolina??

  5. South Carolina • Capital: Columbia • Bird: Great Carolina wren • Flower: Yellow Jessamine Did you know…North Carolina & South Carolina used to be one state, they were separated in 1710??

  6. Virginia • Bird: Cardinal Yes, Virginia and North Carolina have the same state Bird and Flower! What Copy Cats! • Capital: Richmond • Flower: Dogwood Did you know the city of Jamestown which is in Virginia was the first city every colonized in the United States??

  7. West Virginia Flower: Rhododendron Bird: Cardinal Capital: Charleston Did you know…75% of West Virginia is covered in Forest! That’s a lot of trees! Another state with the Cardinal as it’s state Bird!

  8. Georgia • Bird: Brown Thrasher • Flower: Cherokee Rose Capital: Atlanta Did you know… Georgia is the # 1 producer of the three P’s –peanuts, peaches and pecans!

  9. Florida Bird: Mockingbird Flower: Orange Blossom Capital: Tallahassee Did you know…Space ships are blasted off from Cape Canaveral which is on Florida’s Coast??

  10. Mississippi Bird: Mockingbird (just like Florida!) Flower: Magnolia Capital: Jackson Did you know… Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on Jan. 8, 1935?? Mississippi is a hard word to spell…How many S’s are in it??

  11. Alabama • Flower: Camellia • Capital: Montgomery • Bird: Yellowhammer Did You know…Alabama workers built the first rocket to put humans on the moon??

  12. Louisiana Bird: Eastern Brown Pelican Flower: Magnolia Capital: Baton Rouge Did you know…Mardi Gras is celebrated every year in New Orleans!

  13. Arkansas • Bird: Mockingbird • Flower: Appleblossom Capital: Little Rock Did you know…there is over 9,700 miles of river in Arkansas?? That’s a lot of water! Just like Florida And Mississippi

  14. Tennessee • Bird: Mockingbird • Again?! • Flower: Iris Capital: Nashville Did you know that Tennessee has more than 3,800 caves?!

  15. Kentucky • Bird: Cardinal • Flower: Goldenrod Capital: Frankfort Did you know…cheeseburgers were first served in 1934 at a restaurant in Kentucky??

  16. Next week we’ll be going over the northeast region so make sure you still look over all of these states! Each one has something special about it! A little Rhyme to help you remember how states there are… The fifty “nifty” United States 
