“K.T.EU - KEY TO EUROPE”From a regional to a national Erasmus Placement Consortium Franca Battigelli – University of Udine
2007/08 The first idea: a regional Consortium Friuli Venezia Giulia Region 2 University cities: Trieste and Udine
A regional Consortium: the objectives • To develop cooperation among higher education institutions in Friuli Venezia Giulia in the field of student training and international mobility. • To bridge the gap between Universities and Conservatories of Music. • To offer increased & integrated training opportunities to students of the region.
Moving on: new objectives • Enlarging the network: towards a North-South collaboration • Starting Incoming Placement Mobility => collaboration with local companies & associations • Enhancing student mobility as curricular training
2009/10: Consortium Partners • University of Udine - Project Coordinator • University of Trieste • International School of Advanced Studies, Trieste • Conservatory of Music “J. Tomadini”, Udine • Conservatory of Music “G. Tartini”, Trieste • University Magna Graecia, Catanzaro, Calabria
KTEU specificity • A national Consortium of medium-size institutions. • Company partners SMEs: small and medium enterprises (more available to a personalized and effective tutorship & training) • Priority fields of study (not exclusive): Languages, Engineering, Economics, Music, Arts
Consortium procedures Consortium level • Joint Call for applications • Shared selection timetable for students’ applications; • After mid-stage report: re-distribution of unawarded grants among partners; • Regular meetings between partner institutions.
Consortium procedures Individual partner level • Portfolio of host companies; • Selection of students; • Placement of students in host companies; • Management of placements: contracts/monitoring/academic recognition
“K.T.EU - KEY TO EUROPE” A first balance
STRENGTHS • Increasing students interest in professional training abroad • Academic recognition (ECTS & Europass Mobility) • High quality host companies and effective interaction between tutors and trainees • Personal tutoring by academic & company tutors • Monitoring of student’s progress • Improved collaboration among partners.
WEAKNESSES • Decrease in funding on National level => reduction of mobility • Inadequate time for selection of first semester students, as funding confirmation arrives late • Amount of work required of the Project Coordinator for the administration & management of the partnership. • Possible problems in matching students+companies
The University of Udine Consortium Coordinator
Actors involved • University International Offices • Erasmus Coordinators • Faculty EP Delegates • Students • Host companies
Information & dissemination • University web-page and web-radio • E-Mails to all students • Promotional posters • Professors and Erasmus coordinators • Local newspapers
So far so good! What’s next?
Need for information from NA regarding incoming SMP • Need for adequate support from NA; otherwise no chance of: • increasing student mobility: more opportunities for more students! • launching incoming mobility • enlarging the partnership
