  5. WHAT’S DIFFERENT? • Entering the borders • Culture • Currency • Language • Communication

  6. ENTERING the BORDERS of SSC You will need to determine your educational goal. The College offers: • Associate of Arts degree (A.A.) leads to university degrees • Associate of Science degrees (A.S.) leads to work/limited university degrees • Bachelors of Science degrees (B.S.) (with completion of A.A.or A.S.) • Certificates (C.C.) – short-term specific training • Vocational Certificates (V.C) Your SSC ID CARD is your passport. Have it with you at all times on campus.

THE CULTURE of SSC • At Seminole State you may: choose your major, select the days/times and teachers for your classes, and select the campus(es) you wish to attend. • You are RESPONSIBLEfor these choices and the outcomes of those choices. • You will be PROACTIVEin your education. • You will take ownership of your educational choices. EX. Going on a trip, you would pack your own bag; selecting the items that are important to you to place in your bag.

TRANSLATING KEY WORDS in the SSC LANGUAGE • REGISTRATION/ENROLL-MENT DATES - these dates indicate when you can begin signing up for the next semester’s classes. • PAYMENT/TUITION DEADLINES /DEFER FEES– the date by which you must pay for your classes, either by financial aid deferment, cash, or credit card. Failure to pay for classes by the deadline date will result in classes being dropped. • ADD/DROP – the time frame in which you can change your schedule without penalties. • WITHDRAWAL – the time frame in which you get out of a class once add/drop is over. You will receive a grade of “W” for the course. It will count as an attempt. You cannot receive a refund of your money. You may have to repay financial aid monies.

  11. Communicating with SSC LIVEMAIL • SSC communicates with students via LIVEMAIL. • You are responsible for reading the information that is sent to you. • Train yourself to read your email messages weekly, if not daily.

  12. MEETING with your ACADEMIC AMBASSADOR(aka, your Academic Advisor) • Read the SSC catalog; look at the course descriptions. • Have an idea of your educational goal. • Decide how many courses you think you can handle. • Apply for financial aid (FAFSA) early. • Determine ahead of time how you will pay for your courses. • Write down on a piece of paper the questions you need answers to. • They can help you with: • Selecting a major using the Major/Career Worksheet • Degree requirements • Educational Plans • Academic Progress • Student Advisement Report/Audit • 30/45 credit audits • Graduation • College policies and procedures
