SITE VISITS FOR VIEWING OF CLC BLOCKWORK Present: Mr. Madhusudan, Emami Constructions (Client) Mr. JK Nair SIC (Architects) Mr. Srikant, Facet (Structural Engineer) Mr. Naresh Agarwal, Director, Brickwell Cellular Blocks
AGENDA: • To Observe the Wall chases (for conduiting & piping) done in the 100 mm thick partition walls • To observe the various household fixtures (cabinets, Stone counters, Bathroom fixtures etc) • cantilevered from the 100 mm thick Block work partition wall.
SITE No.1 Project Type: School Building Building Height: G+2 Location: Near Uppal, Hyderabad
Size of CLC Blocks viewed: 100x200x 600 mm Density: 750 kg/ cu.m Length = 600 mm 200 mm 100 mm Cellular Nature of the block’s internal section
Wall chases for electricity conduits: approx size of chase: 25mm x 60 mm wide Recommended gap between 2 chasings by manufacturer: 100 mm
RC ring bands for partition walls: recommended intervals: at 1000 mm height each i.e, a Total of 2 RC bands, one at lintel level, one below lintel level)
SITE NO.2 Project Type: Apartment Building Height: S+5 Location: Near Miyapur, Hyderabad Size of Blockwork used for internal partition walls: 125 mm thk x 200 mm x 600 mm
Stone Counter top NOT hung from 125 mm thick Conc. Cellular wall. It is supported by the cabinet below. Therefore the intended item was not able to be observed. Cantilevered cupboard Hung from 125 mm thk cellular Conc. Blockwork Wall
Wash Basin and Water-Closet have been hung from Double wall (250 mm wall thickness, effective)
SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS: • Wall chase- edges (formed by electric saw) were reasonably rigid and not powdery. Wall chases of 25 mm depth did not appear to be a challenge, as long as it is kept on one side of the wall, and minimum of 100 mm distance kept from two concecutive chases. • General “planarity” of the constructed walls were found to be good. This is essentially due to the uniformity of the size of the Blocks. • In the shown example, the Kitchen Stone Counter top was found NOT hung from 125 mm thick Conc. Cellular wall. It was found supported by the cabinet below. Manufacturer to provide details on what is the maximum recommended weight that can be hung from a 3 m stretch of wall that is 100 mm thick.* • For Bathrooms, the fixtures were seen to be hung from a 250 mm thk wall quite satisfactorily.
