LETSEMA CIRCLE TRUST WRC Research Project K5/1965 Introduction John Colvin
Develop a trans-disciplinary (or ‘sustainability science’) design to enable testing of intervention frameworks and thus progress the mainstreaming process (wp1) • wp4: Conceptual and intervention framework for integrative & adaptive leadership, management & governance • wp4: Conceptual and intervention framework for integrative & adaptive leadership, management & governance • wp4: Conceptual and intervention framework for integrative & adaptive leadership, management & governance • wp3a,b: Toolkit for vulnerability assessments & adaptation options • wp3a,b: Toolkit for vulnerability assessments & adaptation options • wp3a,b: Toolkit for vulnerability assessments & adaptation options • wp2a,b: Update knowledge of CC impacts, risks & uncertainties • wp2a,b: Update knowledge of CC impacts, risks & uncertainties • wp2a,b: Update knowledge of CC impacts, risks & uncertainties • wp1: Start the implementation & ‘mainstreaming’ process • Initial design for intervention based on stakeholder, network & sector analyses • Emerging knowledge and praxis pathways

Praxes and designs for change including social learning processes D4: Narratives of vulnerability – of ecosystems; infrastructures; communities – and whole socio-ecological systems Researcher team: interdisciplinary sense making and design Adaptive project management through cycles of inquiry …we became excited by the possibility of…practicing a different kind of (trans- disciplinary) science which could help to co-produce new practices of policy making &/or implementation. We recognised that this would require new approaches. This then led us to think about ‘toolkits’ differently: “How can a ‘toolkit’ be a learning pathway? How can we develop post-normal, co-designed toolkits rather than maladaptive toolkits? How can we develop a learning community of practice with stakeholders? How should we build the learning community? What is our opening story? ” D2: Narratives of risk and uncertainty D3: Understanding risks to future water-related investments based on improved, downscaled climate modelling & scenarios
