  2. What, pray tell, might an invective be?

  3. Shakespearean Invectives are…

  4. Smack Talk, Elizabethan Style

  5. Invectives are strong criticisms, insults and abusive or insulting language. When someone who is angry starts shouting abusive language and hurtful words at you, they are practicing their invective vocabulary.

  6. "Curse the blasted, jelly-boned swines, the slimy, the belly-wriggling invertebrates, the miserable *&^$%ing rotters, the flaming @#$%^&*s, the snivelling, dribbling, dithering, palsied pulse-less lot that make up England today. . . . Oh, how I hate them! Curse them, the funkers! Blast them! Wishwash! Extermine them, the slime!

  7. William Shakespeare was a master at creating invectives. We have already read some of them in Act I of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Who can find it?

  8. 15 Shakespearean Insults To Unleash In Everyday Life

  9. Now, boys and girls, it’s time for you to create an invective, Shakespearean style… Choose at least one word from each of the three columns on the handout. Preface the words with “Thou”… And thus shalt thou have the perfect Shakespearean insult. Write it on your poster paper, add some colorful illustrations, and turn it in.
