Behavior and Responsibilities Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe We have made class norms as a class, and have pledged to hold ourselves and each other accountable for the same expectations. • Behavior Management Chart • Class Dojo *Any repetitive or harmful behavior will result in a conference with the child, parent, teacher, and possibly principal.

  5. Technology • Infosnap needs to be renewed each year. Automaticity-Math Facts Third grade’s main focus in on multiplication and fact mastery. • We have already started reviewing from 2nd grade! • 3 a day, for a math fact family in 1 week!! • We will have a Multiplication Challenge twice a month to entice our students to memorize the best they can. • Mastery is essential for success moving forward in math.

  7. Reading Read Every Day! Your child should be reading every night for at least 20 minutes. Best Fit Books Your child should be choosing books that are at their reading level. (ZPD-in agendas) COMING SOON: Reading Notebooks Your child must complete one journal entry every week. They should take their time to fill out each entry. They will have questions they can use to help them talk about the book they are reading.

  8. Read with your child every night! • Ask your child questions as you read together. Make sure they are using evidence from the story to support their thinking. • Ask your child to be word detectives. Have themlook for words with particular vowel sounds or rhyming words. • Help your child sound out words he/she does not know. • Have your child recount the events in the story. • Do multiple reads of books to help improve fluency. • Students should be reading near 100 to 134 wpm at the end of 3rd with more focus on accuracy and prosody.

  9. Reading is Cool Monthly Reading Goal Starting in October we will be participating in the San Jose Sharks Reading is Cool Program. Each student will keep track of their reading (# of pages) and submit their logs monthly. Top classes get a visit from Sharkie!!

  10. Writing We are following a writers workshop model. We have set writing goals and have writing partners to help us meet these goals. Students will have many opportunities to write using technology to guide them through the process as well as publish final pieces. We will be writing in 3 genres: Narrative, Informative, and Opinion.

  11. Listening and Speaking Students are expected to deliver various 3-4 presentations/speeches throughout their school year. We will be doing social studies and science projects throughout the year which will require each student to also present to the class. We will also be reading/performing poetry to practice fluency and public speaking skills.
