Mexican War of Independence (1810-1821) • September 16th, 1810 • Mexican & Spanish colonial authorities • Peasants VS. masters • Oppressive rule of the Spanish colonizers • Spanish renamed the country as New Spain • Groups of people in Mexico: Olmec, Maya, Toltec, Aztecs
Reasons to start the revolution • Overexploitation of resources and people • Resources : gold • Decrease in Native Americans & Afro-Americans • Class inequality • - Upper class = Spanish colonists • - Middle class= children born form the union of Spaniards & natives • - Lower class = native Indians & Afro-Americans
General of the Mexican Revolutionary Army • Priest • Believed the Spanish crown = monarch • Injustice toward the poor citizens • Turned his house into a night school • Also opened to Indians & mestizos • Peasant army • Run the church bell to accnounce revolution against the Spanish

Fifth of May • May 5th, 1862 • Battle of Puebla • During the Franco-Mexican War • French troop = 6,040 • Mexican army = 4,500 • Result French ran out of bullets when they attacked the Mexicans for the 3rd time
