Family Heritage • My name is Melissa Thai. I was born at Conover, North Carolina, in October 7, 1996. I have a younger brother and an older sister, so I am the middle child. My parents were both born at Vietnam and had lived there for part of their childhood. When my mom was still a young girl, she had went to a refugee camp in Malaysia. Then she moved to California and had lived there for most of her high school years. She lived with her aunt at California since my grandma had stayed at Vietnam to take care of her other children. My mom was the oldest out of all her brothers and sisters; she had three brothers and two sisters. When my dad was 17, he had also gone to a refugee camp in Malaysia, and had then moved to North Carolina to finish all his years in high school. My dad had six sisters and four brothers. They had all live in many places around the world. He had two brothers and two sisters that live in Hickory, North Carolina, two sister that live in Houston, Texas, one sister that lives in California, and another sister that lives in Hong Kong, and he also has a brother that lives in Vietnam. My parents met in California and had gotten married at September 1992. They had their first child in 1994, their second child in 1996, and their youngest child in 2002.
