Do Now: • Fill out the Two-Way table and answer the question • What is the relative frequency of a student who takes both a foreign language and an art class to all students who take a foreign language? • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkRfRN5-ezw
Standard Deviation • How much the data deviates from the mean.
Creating a Bell Curve • We have a few test averages of • 58, 97, 93, 69, 85 • First find the standard deviation (use your calculator)
Questions you might be asked: • Given a standard deviation of 6, and a mean of 75, • how many standard deviations away from the mean is 99? • What is two standard deviations below the mean?
Silently Try it… • Given a standard deviation of 3.5, and a mean of 28 • What is 5 standard deviations away from mean in both directions? • How many standard deviations away from the mean is 17.5, 10.5, and 0?
Statistics Project Get into groups of NO MORE THAN 4!
Statistics Project (Day 1) For this project we will be creating surveys that we will give to another class to collect data. We will need to come up with 2 questions. One question will have two variables to create a two-way table (cannot use boys and girls). The other question will have numerical answers (cannot use age).
Statistics Project (Day 1) • We will be surveying other classes tomorrow morning to collect data to create our posters • When you create your two questions, show Ms. Taylor the rough copy of the survey that you will be typing out. YOU MUST GET APPROVAL!!
Statistics Project (Day 1) • When everyone is complete with their survey questions we will being going to the media center to type them up. • You want to create the survey and then call Ms. Taylor over to the computer.
