How To Play the Conga Drum with Johnny Conga Afro-Cuban Percussion Instruction “JC” Johnny Conga has taught Latin Percussion and Afro Caribbean drumming for over 30 years and counting. He has toured the world and has worked with a variety of artists from Sergio Mendes to Paquito D’Rivera, The Jackson 5, Maynard Ferguson, Mongo Santamaria, Willie Bobo and many others. JC teaches the “Cuban Method” in learning how to play the Conga drum as it is taught in Cuba today. Johnny is currently adjunct faculty at Shoreline Community College and is the first Latin Percussion teacher to teach at a Community College in Seattle. Johnny’s methods of teaching are in such demand that his attendees to learn have come from Australia, Ireland, Florida, New York, Texas, Cuba, as well as many in the local Seattle community. They include Ruma Guaguanco, Yambu, Columbia, Bembe, Mozambique, Pilon, Guaranpachangeo, Cha Cha, Guajira, Son Montuno, Guracha, Mambo, Abacua , Iyeza, Comparsa and other Cuban rhythms. Also included will be the Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena, the Dominican Merengue, the Trinidadian Calypso and various Brazilian Rhythms of the Samba, Bossa Nova, Maracatu, Afoxe and others.
