GILA Statement • GILA is a non-profit organization of research groups and laboratories involved in Geographic Information Research. • GILA is associated with CRECTEALC (Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for Latin America and the Caribbean) • CRECTEALC is a United Nations regional center with main offices in Brazil and Mexico
GILA Mission To improve the quality of geoinformation research in Latin America focusing on international-quality postgraduate education.
Improving research by graduate education • Improving quality of research is achieved by good graduate education • Graduate education in GI science needs good quality teaching material • Teaching material should provide the means of apprehension of the state-of-the-art • GILA’s Focus: Education, not training
GILA Main Objective Promote research cooperation of Latin-American GI research institutions, universities and laboratories through production and sharing of on-line and e-learning teaching material.
GILA Members • Latin American Research Groups and Laboratories, from public and private sectors, working with Geographic Information are welcome to become members of GILA. GILA is an association of groups rather than individuals and each group must have a contact person. • The Institutions associated to GILA have the right to use the course material prepared by the society, including the right to create derivative work and make commercial use (Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial-NoDerivs License)
