  2. Project #4: Storm Chasers • Students will research about the force five: hurricanes, floods, blizzards, tornadoes, and drought. All of this weather impacts communities in different ways. We will research how these storms form, what regions are most likely to be impacted, and how people can stay safe in adverse weather conditions. We will also continue looking at mapping skills and geography, and labeling diagrams and text features in non-fiction text. The students will also be in literature circles reading I survived: Hurricane Katrina 2005. Project Topics How does weather impact our community?   4. Noise Level 0-1 Monday – Wednesday Work on completing activities from your writing menu. You must select at least 3 different activities. One must involve reading a WEATHER story to complete the activity. After reading your story and completing the activity you must also complete the thinking map on the back of your menu using your story. Thursday Write a summary about blizzards on page 173 and 174 using your Science book and study guide. Friday Using a newspaper, write a summary about the local weather. Write 5 sentences to complete your summary using formal voice.   5. Working with Words Noise Level 1 Monday Dictionary Skills – Look up the words in the dictionary and write the definition and the part of speech. When you are finished play Vocabulary Tic-Tac-Toe. Words to define – atmosphere, weather, temperature, air pressure, thermometer, barometer. Tuesday 5 Box Vocabulary – Draw a picture to help define each vocabulary word. Vocabulary Words – water vapor, evaporation, condensation, water cycle, precipitation Wednesday Weather Fluency Passage – Practice reading your passage 2 times before reading it into Audacity. Thursday Finish looking up words from Monday and play Tic Tac Toe Vocabulary. Friday Write a weather poem.   6. Math Skill Reinforcement Noise Level 1 Monday Building facts on a Geoboard. Beat the calculator when you are finished. Tuesday Page 103 Multiplication facts and calculator counts. Use a calculator to find the number patterns. Wednesday Practice with facts and arrays pg 105. Making Arrays for 24 with grid paper and cubes. Use cubes to come up with as many different arrays for 24 as you can. Thursday Setting up Chairs – Journal pg 93. Use the clues on Math Masters pg 106 to figure out how the chairs should be set up. Friday Fact Platter game with a partner OR multiplication baseball.
