  2. What do you see? Cooled lava flow from quietly erupting Kilauea

  3. Near Kilauea… Steam, VOG, side vents, geothermal energy, evidence of an active volcano

  4. Identify the rock. Basalt, lava flow, aa, construction of new land, low silica content rock

  5. And now this rock. Pahoehoe

  6. What is that? From what is this “rock” made? Pele’s Hair, silica crystals, volcanic glass

  7. And this? Pele’s Tears (basalt)

  8. Where are we? In a lava tube (dike, lateral pipe)

  9. What used to be here? Magma! (molten rock, gases)
