What makes a dino a dino? • Lived during Mesozoic era • Upright Posture • Bird-like or lizard-like hips • Extra openings in the skull • Lived and moved on land
WHEN? -Dinosaurs first appeared in the Triassic period: 230,000,000 years ago. -There are more than 700 species of dinosaurs. -Extinct by the end of the Cretaceous period -Climate change due to volcanic eruption, large asteroid strike
Can dinosaurs talk? -Dinosaurs communicate through sounds they make and movements -Sounds: bellows, grunts, moos, snarls, honks, roars, hisses, rumbles, snorts
What did dinosaurs eat? -All dinosaurs were either meat or plant eaters -Four legged dinosaurs were plant eaters and two-legged dinos were meat eaters -Teeth could show what kind of eater the dinosaur was…Sharp saw-like teeth would show a meat eater, dull grinding teeth for plant eaters
MORE… -Plant eaters were larger then meat eaters by far. -Meat eaters could be 7-8 tons and 45 feet long -Plant eaters could be 110 tons and up to 110 feet long!
