  2. Good crosswalks matter • Crosswalks make retrieval systems work • Broadly speaking, Voyager indexes are crosswalks • Any amount of detail helps, though moredetail is better • Crosswalks make interoperability possible

  3. Liberating MARC • MARC XML makes MARC more syntactically interoperable • It serves as a “bus” for further transformations • It preserves the richness of the MARC record

  4. CUL MARC transformations • The CUL ENCompass Team sought to meet e-Reference needs • We created a Web interface for system-wide access • We enhanced LC’s DC XML stylesheet

  5. Applications • Transform MARC records to DC XML for e-Reference in ENCompass • Other possibilities for MARC XML in delivering CUL services?
