Matthew 1 – The King of Israel • 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14)” (which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

What did this King accomplish with His death? • Christ, the Substitute • 1 Peter 2:24-2524He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. • 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God… • 2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
What did this King accomplish with His death? • Christ, the Victor • Genesis 3:15…he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. • Colossians 2:13-1513 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
