Goal of Community Health To have empowered communities taking responsibility for improving their own health status through community health interventions
Background • Established March 2018 under Public Health Dept • Last mile/last leg to service delivery • Mandated with putting in place the appropriate systems and structures in making healthcare more accessible for all Zambians

Community Health The Community Health Unit recognises that health is repaired in the health facility, but is produced in the community
The road to health • Health producers: • Parents and family • Religious Leaders • Teachers • Health care workers • Civic leaders • Traditional leaders • Employers
Where are we now? Growth monitoring CHAs Malaria agents
Community Health Workforce • Community Health Assistants (CHAs) • Government employees that receive 12-month training in primary health care • Community Based Volunteers • Volunteers working with different programmes and partners • Many different types: SMAGs; TB Treatment Supporters; HIV treatment adherence; Community-Based Distributors; Malaria Agents
Neighbourhood Health Committees • What are they? • A link between the community and their nearest health post • Community-based • Non-partisan • Composed of local residents Photo credit: World Connect

How do we work with you? • Increase uptake of health services: delivering key health messages • Use places of worship to offer Community Health services like Health Desks • Creating awareness of community-based volunteers
