Content • Based on content from CDC Heads Up toolkit and Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport (McCrory et al., 2009) • Consultant input • Interviews with certified athletic trainers, physicians, neuropsychologists, and public health professionals
ACTive Development Educational modules for: • Coaches: available • Parents • Students completed August, 2011 • Educators
Coach education • Training is now mandated in several states • Oregon State Athletic Association chose ACTive for coach education
Program evaluation • 75 youth sports coaches (athletes ages 10-14) from across the U.S. • Random controlled trial: • ½ viewed ACTive • ½ viewed control training
ACTive evaluation results* Coaches who took the ACTive training: • Had significantly greater knowledge of concussion • Were more likely to take action if they suspected concussion • Were more confident in making decisions about concussion management * Glang, Koester, Beaver, McLaughlin & Clay, 2010
