1916: Born October 11, in Boston, Ma to an Irish family • Attended the women’s division of the Boston Latin School • Tried to be a teacher but ended up not liking it Mary through the years
1937-1940: attended the Boston School of Occupational Therapy (three year program) • 1941: began practicing OT as the director of occupational therapy at the Sigma Gamma Hospital in Detroit • ≈1941-1945: OT at Ft. Devens, MA during WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor Mary through the years
1945-1955: During the next ten years Mary had a distinguished clinical career with U.S. Army Medical Specialists • Titled Captain • 1955-1978: taught at USC and UCLA (earned her doctorate degree in education here) • USC: taught 1955-1958 and 1960-1978, credited with developing master’s program • UCLA: headed the university’s Neuropsychiatric Institute Mary through the years
1961: delivered the Eleanore Clarke Slagle lecture titled: Occupational Therapy can be one of the greatest ideas of 20th century medicine 1983: inducted into AOTF’s academy of research Currently she is retired and lives in Fairfield, California Mary through the years
