Chapter 11 Review Battle Royale-Style
Battle Royale Rules! • Each person from your team will be up at the board one time. • Each person from your team may go up to the board to assist someone one time. After that they may not be a helper for the remainder of the game. • You must show your work with appropriate units for math problems and Punnett squares. • You must write in a complete, stand-alone sentence for explanations (IQIA). • Lists must be written in order (answers only) • The point will be awarded for the team with the correct, complete answer that puts their pen down first. • Candy for the winning team!!!
Let’s assemble teams! Team RIGHT: Andreassen -- Forsman Team MIDDLE: Hale – White Team LEFT: Roth -- Zinn
You must answer in a complete sentence! • Write one or two sentences that relate the terms “allele, gene and chromosome.” Alleles are different forms of genes, which are located on chromosomes.
You must answer in a complete sentence! • Use Punnett square(s) to show all of the possible genotypes of offspring from a father with type B blood and a mother with type O blood. BO (if dad is BB); BO, OO (if dad is BO)
You must answer in a complete sentence! 3. Describe two similarities between mitosis and meiosis. Format: Both mitosis and meiosis _________. Many possible answers: Both are forms of cell division, both go through PMAT, both have interphase/DNA replication, both separate sister chromatids…
You must list the genotypes for the following parents in order (answers only)! 4. Tall pea plant height (T) is dominant over short plant height (t). Green seeds (G) are dominant over yellow (g). • Heterozygous for both traits • Homozygous tall, heterozygous green • Short, yellow • Short, homozygous green TtGg TTGg ttgg ttGG
You must answer in a complete sentence! 5. Describe the difference between codominance and incomplete dominance. Codominance is when heterozygous individuals show both of the other two phenotypes separately; incomplete dominance shows a blend of the two phenotypes in heterozygotes.
You must answer in a complete sentence! 6. Name and describe two different ways that meiosis increases genetic variability in gametes. Crossing over combines maternal and paternal alleles in individual chromatids; independent assortment creates random combinations of maternal/paternal chromosomes in gametes.
You must answer in complete sentences! 7. Describe two differences between mitosis and meiosis. Each difference must include information about both processes. Format: Meiosis _________ while mitosis_________. Many possible answers: Mitosis = 2 identical diploid daughter cells; Meiosis = 4 unique haploid gametes
You must list your answers! 8. Rank the following events in the order in which they occur. Sister chromatids separate, homologous chromosomes separate, DNA replicates, 4 daughter cells are formed, crossing over DNA replicates, crossing-over, homologous separate, sister chromatids separate, 4 daughter cells formed
Show your work! 9. Wet earwax (E) is dominant over dry earwax (e). Construct a Punnett square to show a cross between two heterozygous people. List the genotypic and phenotypic ratios. Genotypic: 1 EE: 2 Ee: 1 ee Phenotypic: 3 wet: 1 dry
You must list these in order and clearly distinguish capital from lowercase! 10. Write the possible gametes from the following parents? • CcHHSs • Bb • EETt • CHS, CHs, cHS, cHs • B, b • ET, Et
Show your work! 11. Two tall green pea plants are crossed. One plant is heterozygous for height and homozygous for green pod color, while the other is heterozygous for both height and for pod color. Tall (T) is dominant to short (t) and green pod (G) is dominant to yellow (g). What is the phenotypic ratio of the offspring in this cross? • Tall/Green Pod-12 • Short/Green Pod-4
