Basic Research • Highly Adaptive Energy-Efficient Computing (HAEC) • Joint DFG Collaborative Research Center with faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (School of Engineering) • Vision: computing systems with high energy efficiency and high performance. • Building block excellence of Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden • 14 projects / 17 principal investigators • Quantitative Logics and Automata (QuantLA) • Joint DFG Research Training Group with University of Leipzig • Vision: bring together quantitative logics and automata • Applications: verification, knowledge representation, and natural language processing • 7 Professors, 3 PostDocs, 20 PhD students

Applied Research • SAP Research Dresden • >100 research staff members (many from TU Dresden) • Joint research projects • Joint PhD program, and student theses • Scientific Areas: Future Factory, Logistics, Software-Engineering, Internet of Services, Internet of Things • spin-off „ubigrate“ • ResUbic Lab Dresden • 5 professors / 19 researchers, 4.5M€ • Structural measure by State to support software engineering (500 new jobs per year in Saxony) • Research Areas: Cyber-Physical Systems, Cloud Robotics, Open World Databases, Smart Office

Center for Information Services and HPC (ZIH) • Responsible for all IT related issues on campus • Provides central servers and services for TUD • Grid & Cloud Computing: Sharing Compute Power & Data Storage • Supercomputing Resources for the State of Saxony • Research focus • Computer architecture • Algorithms, methods and modeling • Tools for the development and optimization of parallel programs • Responsible for teaching and training

HRSK-II: High Performance Computing Expertise • Next generation HPC system • Application focus in Dresden: life sciences and material sciences • New machine room (1250 m2, 5 MW), investment about 30 Mio. € • Two phases of installation: H2/2012, 2013/2014 • Investment: 15 Mio. € • Research focus on innovative methods • Scalability • Data intensive computing • Energy efficiency analysis

Lehmann-Zentrum • Centre for Integrated Engineering, integral part of the DRESDEN-concept • Designed as a central scientific unit, broad range of interdisciplinary activities • More than 250 IT experts will share knowledge and expertise under one single roof • Integrated departments: • Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) • Resubic Lab Dresden • Virtual Engineering Center (ZVM) • Media Centre (MZ) • Centre for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (CAM) • Incubator for startups
