  1. Retrieval of Land Surface Infrared Charateristics from Simulated HES RadiancesRobert O. Knuteson, Eva Borbas, Szu Chia Moeller, Henry E. Revercomb, Suzanne Seeman and David C. Tobin, CIMSS, University of Wisconsin-Madison The NWP WRF model is used to generate a physically reasonable atmospheric profile dataset for which TOA radiances are computed. Land surface emissivity properties are based on observed MODIS surface emissivity at selected channels regressed against laboratory spectra of mineral reflectivity. Techniques for the retrieval of separated land surface temperature and infrared emissivity are under development at CIMSS that make use of the HES high spectral resolution (similar to AIRS and CrIS) but add the temporal dimension. 11 m B.T.
