US History Research PaperStepping Stone Assignments • The following assignments represent key steps towards completing your research paper. • You should notice that each step builds on the previous steps. • If you follow the steps honestly, the final paper will be MUCH easier to complete. • Each of the following assignments will count as quiz grade. • GRADING: Each step assignment will be graded as follows: • 20 pts - Completed and turned assignment in on time / typed. • 30 pts - Free of major proofreading / editing errors. (1st one free then -10 each) • 50 pts - Addresses all of the parts of the assignment thoroughly • Annotated Bibliography – You should list at least 5 sources (not wikipedia or your textbook) that you have already consulted in proper bibliographic format. At least 2 of your sources must be traditional history books that you physically show to me. For each of your sources you should include a short paragraph that: • Describes the source. • Specifically explains how you expect this source will fit into your paper • Examples of evidence / information you expect to pull from this source. (at least 2 each) • DUE Thursday May 14

Accessed May 7, 2009. • This website is the official tourism board of the City of Bedrock. “Barney’s Pics” is a collection of pictures by a Flintstone era resident named Barney Rubble. The pictures feature many scenes from everyday life. • Pic titled “Fred Bowling” shows the types of leisure activities enjoyed by Bedrock citizens. The caption mentions that bowling was especially popular among the crane operators at the local quarry. • Pic titled “Fred and Barney in Car” shows the kinds of cars they had at the time. Pictured is a 1961 Granite T10, powered by feet, with foot brakes. • Flintstone, Fred. Busting Stone: Paleolithic Bedrock through the eyes of a Quarry Worker. Cambridge: Hanna Barbara Publishing, 1965. • This book is a collection of first hand accounts of people who worked and lived in the town of Bedrock in the “Flintstone” era. • P. 75 Fred is fired for the 5th time. Shows the difficult relationship between management and labor • P. 81 “Someday, maybe Fred will win the fight.” this quote by neighbor Barney Rubble demonstrates the relationship between husbands and wives in the time frame. • P. 99 Description of the drive up restaurant: Massive food portions of dinosaur meet were typical for the families when they went out for dinner. (p. 100 Brontosaurus burger = 1432 calories and 21 grams of fat)
