  8. Cool Packs Cool Packs can be charged rapidly (10 min.) in ice water or a bit longer in a freezer or refrigerator. Cool packs are dry, not wet and can keep your dog cool for 1 to 1 ½ hours. Packs are not frozen and are only 50 degrees does not harm skin like ice and can be recharged indefinitely.

  9. OK What is this stuff? If the Pack ruptures, will the chemical hurt me or my dog? No. A rupture of the Cool Pack is highly unlikely. Cool Packs are constructed by an FDA registered manufacturer from an incredibly durable medical grade tri polymer film. The US Air Force has put the Cool Packs through extreme durability testing, including running them over with military trucks with no ill effect. If a Cool Pack is somehow cut or punctured, the liquid inside is not toxic, carcinogenic or corrosive, and is approved by the FDA for direct contact with food. It is inert at room or outdoor temperatures. It also weighs less than water of the same volume so the cooling pack will be positively buoyant. The liquid can cause mild irritation to people or animals with sensitive skin, and should not be eaten. If In its liquid state, if a Pack does become damaged and should leak onto clothing or your skin or your dog, you should immediately remove the vest and wash the clothing and/or exposed skin or fur with mild soap and water.

Unlike other products, our cooling vests are anatomically designed to fit your dog with no gaps or bulges, and keep working in high heat and humidity. Soak-In Water Presently utilized in vest-type garments, evaporative cooling has been around for centuries.  Today, a new twist has been added.  Water absorbing polymer crystals are abundant in the cooling product to relive heat stress symptoms. These products must first be immersed in water for at least 45 minutes then release the excess water and place around the neck or body.   Both methods feel moist and clammy to the touch. A caveat to note here is that this method of cooling offers a perfect medium for growth of bacterial cultures and must be washed daily with an antimicrobial cleaner to avoid mildew and bacterial growth. Ice & Gel Vests Most ice and gel packs are extremely cold (as low as 5 to 30F)  If improperly used, both can be potentially hazardous to your dog's health.  To avoid vasoconstriction and hypersensitivity to the skin, insulation between the pack and direct skin is required. Thus minimizing the cooling effect. Recharge time for these products is usually 3 to 6 hours in a freezer Dog owners should consult their vet before using any of these type of products.  Improper use could result in frostbite or tissue damage to your canine.
