PD 3/18 & 3/19 • Please take the handouts at the front table & have a seat at any table.
Courageous Conversations Last PD: How can Martin Luther King’s message be applied to the classrooms at RHS? Today: How can we combine MLK’s message with data on our current diverse population in order to start change in our school?
The Facts • Discuss what you have noticed in terms of diversity in your classrooms at RHS. **Do not be afraid to bring up sensitive subjects, this is how “courageous conversations” work. **
Here’s what we know • There are over 50 languages spoken at RHS • Ten years ago—students of color comprised less than 10% of the population • Today—students of color comprise 25% of the population & growing.
Data Analysis • What patterns do you notice in the data? • In your groups—discuss what this data says to you as a teacher to the community to our students
Where do we go from here? • Based on what you have seen in this presentation—what suggestions do you have for improvement at RHS? • Using the comment sheet—brainstorm those ideas on a classroom, building, school or district-wide level
What’s Next • As a committee—we will take a look at the findings and present the findings at our next staff meeting. Thank you for being willing to have “courageous conversations!” --Charles, Donna & Kelley
