  2. Executive Order 9066 & 9102 • Issued by FDR • 9066 allowed for creation of military zones • 9102 created War Relocation Authority to move Japanese

  3. Why? • People are suspicious and fearful of the Japanese after Pearl Harbor.

  4. Where were the camps? • The camps were located in the interior of the country. • People of Japanese decent were moved from the west coast.

  5. What were the camps like? • Barracks style housing. • Overcrowded • Set-up like a town • Kids went to school • Adults worked in some type of job. • Overall, conditions were not very good, but they were livable.

  6. Results of the Internment • Around 120,000 Japanese were moved to camps. • Camps closed in 1945. • People lost homes, businesses, and their normal lives. • In 1988, U.S. gov’t paid $20,000 for each person interred.
