ABCD ‘S APPLICATION

1. ABCD ‘S APPLICATION Introduction ABCD is definitively the best course at Coady. The Approach “Development driven by citizens” is irreversible. I get on the board. In my Country people think and act mostly as individuals than working as a team . ABCD Approach is a need for my society. Then I engage myself to use it and promote it in Haiti.

2. 6 Different Areas to Apply ABCD I identify 6 Areas where I can apply or Promote ABCD 1- In My Work ( Partners with Haiti ) 2- In My Church 3- In My organization ( PROMOVAL) 4- In My Partners Associations 5- My Community ( Municipality ) 6- Through Literacy

3. 1- 1- My Work : Partners With Haiti CONTEXT Partners with Haiti is faith based organization who provides Education and health for different communities in Haiti. It has many branches. I am the director of the largest branch ( AFCA Village). Opportunity : As a power over holder in AFCA Village , I have the power to apply ABCD in my branch . Challenge : I do not have full power on the other branches , but I expect ABCD will allow me to have better results . Because of the result of my branch , I will have the permission of PWH board to apply ABCD in the other branches of PWH.

5. 1-My Work : Partners With Haiti • PROCESS • In my Branch • a) To Reinforce power with • b) To Present the ABCA approach to my middle staff • c) To Present it to all the staff • d) To Organize seminars / trainings • In the other Branches • a) To Present ABCD approach to PWH Board • b) To meet the directors of the other branches to share the ABCD approach • c) Organize seminars / trainings for directors . • d) Organize seminars / trainings for their staff

6. 2- ABCD in my Church • CONTEXT We have different Associations in the Church such as : Children , Youth , Men , Couple, Musical association and so on Each group has at least 5 leaders. They work on my supervision. Opportunity : The spirit of ABCD is already in the church. As the pastor , I have legitimate power over. The Challenge: They are more than 30 Leaders to convince. It will not be easy to convince them and have them to use ABCD approach ,tools and principles. ,

7. 2- ABCD in my Church PURPOSE: To Reinforce good relationship between church members To have a better Impact in the Community. CONTENT • ABCD Approach • Church members develop the Church by starting with what they have • ABCD Principles: • -Sharing • -Collectivity • -Everybody has something • -Values others opinions • -Accountability • -Leadership and good Governance • -Mutual respect • P.S: There are many passages in the Bible which support these principles

8. 2- ABCD in my Church PROCESS a) Preaching b) Bible study c) Youth /Leaders retreat / Camp d)Use the Bible: God said to Moses: “What do you have in your hands?”( Exodus 4:2) Jesus said to the disciples : How many breads do you Have? (Mark 6:38) Apostle Peter said: As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another , as good stewards …(I Peter 4:10 )

9. 3-ABCD in PROMOVAL CONTEXT Promoval is an organization which is promoting values in Haiti It is a movement for a new way of thinking and behaving. We promote Christians values and universal values in order to change Haitian mindset . Our target is : Children, youth, Leaders Opportunities: *The values we promote are connected with the ABCD *I am a power over holder in Promoval. *Coady and CHLE in Haiti : Possibility of Networking. (CHLE is Haitian Centre for Leadership and Excellence )  Challenge : It is not easy to change the mindset of people . It will take time.

10. 3-ABCD IN PROMOVAL PURPOSE: To Reinforce the capacity of Promoval to accomplish is mission which is promoting values through education to change Haitian mindset. CONTENT: ABCD Approach Development driven by citizens b)ABCD Principles: -Leadership and Good governance -Collectivity -Values others opinions -Accountability  c)ABCD Tools : • Skills Inventory • Leaky Bucket • Mapping • Transect etc..

12. 4-ABCD IN PARTNERS ASSOCIATIONS CONTEXT: In Haiti there are many churches . About 40% of the population attend protestant churches . There many Churches in rural Communities all-over the Country where “apparently”nobody has nothing I can introduce ABCD Approach as new perspective. Opportunity: I am a board member of a pastors League My church is a member of a churches federation . They use the Bible which has the spirit of ABCD. Challenge: They far from Port-au-Prince

13. 4-ABCD IN PARTNERS ASSOCIATIONS PURPOSE: Use the churches a channel to mobilize the Community members for driving the development of their own community. CONTENT: ABCD Approach Community led development BCD Tools : Mapping , Transect walk , Skill inventory … ABCD Principles: -Sharing -Everybody has something -Collectivity -Values others opinions -Accountability -Leadership and good Governance

15. 5- ABCD IN MY COMMUNITY (MUNICIPALITY) CONTEXT: My community is an urban community. The municipality has great challenges in the the community . Trash in the street , lack of based infrastructure, market in the street, etc.. I will try to introduce ABCD Approach to the Mayor as new perspective for community development. Opportunity: The Mayor is a Christian.  I have friend who works in the Municipality who can make the connection. Challenge: The Mayor can be doubt of the Approach. Change the mindset of Haitian people is difficult .

16. 5- ABCD IN MY COMMUNITY (MUNICIPALITY) PURPOSE: The purpose is to let the Mayor be aware about a new Approach , new Tools and new Principles are available. CONTENT: ABCD Approach Citizens drive the development by starting with what they have. ABCD Tools Mapping , Transect walk , Skill inventory … ABCD Principles: -Collectivity -Every has something -Values others opinions -Accountability -Leadership and good Governance

18. 6- ABCD THROUGH LITERACY CONTEXT Young people , leaders and any literate person who are interested to learn through reading can be served . I will also use Literacy to promote ABCD , to comment the tools and the principles through Brochures, booklets, and articles in local news paper. Opportunity:We have talents in promoval who can contribute. Our networking with Coady will also contribute. Challenge : Find fund to produce the Literacy matrials.

19. 6- ABCD THROUGH LITERACY PURPOSE: The purpose is to raise a large public ‘s awareness of a new Approach , new Tools and new Principles of ABCD CONTENT: ABCD Approach Citizens drive the development by starting with what they have. 20. 6- ABCD THROUGH LITERACY PROCESS a) To Prepare a budget b) Organize a Fund raising c) To start the Production -use the Bible / the Proverbs -use the cases of success stories presented by Coady institute d)Publication

21. STRATEGY AND CONCLUSION STATEGY: PROMOVAL will mobilize resources and energies to practice and promote ABCD. It will connect to Churches federation , Pastors League and Christian organizations. Promoval Will encourage Churches to connect with the Communities to Apply ABCD. CONCLUSION: I am sure that ABCD Approach will have great impact in my society. It will take time to see obvious results , but that is the way to move a Community or a Country. Thank you!
