Family Connection is a comprehensive website that you and your child can use to help in making decisions about courses, colleges, and careers. Family Connection is linked with Counselor’s Office, a service that we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that is specific to our school. The following slides provide an overview of Family Connection.

Using Family Connection for college and career planning will: • Provide the best, and most current, resources for students and parents • Facilitate a thorough college search • Maintain effective communications between students, parents and guidance • Empower all students to make well-informed college and career choices

  7. HOW DO YOU REGISTER? Getting Started • Each student receives a code (parents have also been given their own accounts) • Use code to create a personal account • Codes are random and alphanumeric for security reasons • Codes can be used only once • On your first visit, enter the code in the New User Box • Then follow on-screen instructions • On subsequent visits, sign in using the Returning User Box

  8. New User Registration and Returning Users Sign In If you are not a registered user, get your registration information and code from your counselor. Enter this code in the box labeled New User. Click Register and Type in your email address, and choose a password. Choose a password you will remember! Returning user, enter your email address, and password, click, sign in

  10. WELCOME HOME PAGE Check this page frequently. Use it to view updated guidance bulletins, keep on top of deadlines, and access important information.

  11. EXPLORING CAREERS • Naviance is useful for exploring future career options. You can search for careers by keyword, by alphabet, or by category. • You can also search by categories defined under Holland's Theory of Career Choice. The psychologist Dr. John L. Holland created the Holland code career model, which maps job environments to six different personality types: • Realistic • Investigative • Artistic • Social • Enterprising • Conventional • Students can discover the types of work activities and careers that would match their interests by completing the Career Interest Profiler in Naviance.

  12. Résumé Use the entries below to add new accomplishments or click the "edit" button to make changes. If you want to add an accomplishment that is not in the default list, select "other" and use the notes area to provide more detail. By providing information about your accomplishments and talents, you can help your counselor get a better understanding of how to help you effectively describe yourself to colleges. It will serve as your guide during senior year to write your activities resume.

  13. MY GAME PLAN is a series of questions that is designed to help your counselor work with you to develop a game plan for achieving your goals after graduation. You can update your answers to these questions at any time even after you indicate that you are finished. Your answers are not shared with anyone other than your counselor. MY GAME PLAN

  16. COLLEGE SEARCH CRITERIA ADD THE RESULTS OF YOUR SEARCHES TO COLLEGES “I AM CONSIDERING” IN MY COLLEGES. This page provides you with a college search tool that will match your preferences. Once you have narrowed down your list of schools, you will be able to compare these colleges using historical admissions results from Westwood Jr./Sr. High School .
