Infrastructure Port Railway - Background • Change in the structure of goods from bulk commodities to container logistics • The rail transport of goods is still of greatimportance for the connection to the hinterland- it has the power to move mass amounts of goods- thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the ports- efficient utilization of the quay areas • The rail infrastructure must be adapted to the needsof container logistics- change of requirements- large growth in container handling- prevention of extensive expansion measures • Access to the quayside railway infrastructure- questions of management- provide access for private railway enterprises- judicial frame through EU-directive Example: Ports of Bremen
