  1. FLAMETHROWERS The terror weapon of choice in WWII

  2. Short history of the Flamethrower Early flamethrowers where developed by the Byzantine Empire and they used Greek Firein 673 and was thought to be developed by Kallinikos a Syrian Christian refugee who was a POW.

  3. The flamethrower was used In the civil war but not mentioned much. The modern flamethrower that the US used is the M67 “Zippo”, but was mainly used by the USMC in Vietnam

  4. The first flamethrower was the Flammenwerfer created by Richard Fiedler for the German army in 1901 It was very effective but was a one shot deal and had to have a new igniter every time it fired.

  5. The German army did not except the flamethrower until 1911 when they made 12 companies specially equipped with Flammenwerferapparate (im not going to try to pronounce it) and was not used in WWI except against the French in June 25

  6. Maybe not so short The German army continued to deploy flamethrowers in the was and where used in over 300 small battles usually in teams of six flamethrowers

  7. Unlike in WWI, flamethrowers where used a lot in WWII The German army first used the in 1940 and we followed suit in 1942. • The only vulnerability of the flamethrower is that it has a short range and if shot would explode.

  8. Due to the vulnerability of the flamethrower the US military started designing “flame tanks” which are tanks with mounted flamethrowers and a internal fuel supply. They where very effective. But your where hated so if you got captured you where immediately executed.

  9. But why use it? Why use something that could kill you and your comrades that are standing next to you in an instant? Because the flamethrower is the most terrifying and demoralizing infantry weapons ever used.

  11. The effect on society The effect that the flamethrower had on society was tremendous since any place that it was used was burned to a crisp. It would destroy fields of wheat or other vegetables. The Department of defense officially took them out of the Militaries arsenal since 1978 because many people thought that they where inhumane
