  4. THE CONCEPT 'Guppy Lake' is located north of Ann Arbor, near Greenbush, Michigan and includes about 70 acres of ponds and surrounding marsh and woodland. The Guppy Lake Restoration Foundation (GLRF; non-profit organization) was founded by Dr. Nathaniel Borenstein in 1999. The main goal is for the GLRF to become a retreat for religious groups of all kinds to come together to study and learn from each other and find common-ground. Another one of its goals is to preserve the land that it is on for wildlife. The GLRF is in the early planning stages and it is possible for us to have a role in getting it going.

  5. The GLFRF site was used as an illegal dump for many years during a period of absentee ownership. Trash that must be removed includes: scrap metal, old tires, old machine parts, old refrigerators, old car batteries, fencing wire, spools of industrial wire, insulation, carpet scraps, chemically-treated lumber (that may not be burned), glass bottles, cans, and other miscellaneous items.

  6. Old Chicken Coop that has since been removed

  7. MULTI-YEAR OBJECTIVES 1) survey the land for trash to be removed, and make a map of the area showing property lines and significant landmarks 2) clean up all trash that can be taken out by hand on the 70-acre tract of GLRF land, by organizing small crews and working with them to haul trash to rented dumpsters. We will be making as many trips as necessary to meet this goal.

  8. 3) Survey Flora and Fauna and make plan for removal of invasive species. 4) Make Plan for Main Lodge and make plans for the continuation and expansion of GLRF into multi-religious retreat.

  9. LIST OF MATERIALS FOR HAULING OUT TRASH 1) two dumpsters (rented from a private waste management service near Greenbush, Michigan paid for by GLRF) 2) work gloves (supplied by GLRF) 3) shovels (supplied by GLRF) 4) pick ax (for removal of partially buried trash and concrete slabs) (supplied by GLRF) 5) heavy-duty plastic garbage bags (supplied by GLRF) 6) hacksaw (for cutting trash into haulable pieces) (supplied by GLRF) 7) trailer for hauling trash (supplied by GLRF)

  10. LIST OF PAST VOLUNTEER WORKERS 1) Nathanial Borenstien 2) Loren Mindell 3) Chris Primeau 4) Getty Goins 5) Audrey Zupan 6) Levin Forum 7) Trina Borenstien 8) Miriam Borenstien 9) Shana Borenstien 10) Lea Borenstien 11) Rachel Smith 12) Miriam Shabazz 13) David Rosenpire 14) Sara Shurmur

  11. Work gloves, sturdy boots, full length pants, and long sleeve shirts will be required to be worn by all workers. There will be a first-aid kit on hand at all times. Before any trips occur, I and the head of the GLRF will make a plan in case of injury with such details such as contacting parents, next of kin, guardians and transportation plans the nearest medical facility.
