  1. Use the information in the slides to create a TEAM poster…just like your homework! (80 pts) listing the eight most important facts and accomplishments of this project. (5 pts) Include a hand drawing of the insignia. (5 pts) Include a hand drawing of the rocket (10 pts) Give it a title…the project’s name Be sure to make the writing easy to read…and colorful!

Space Shuttles • Space Shuttles allowed astronauts to live in space for up to two weeks to complete experiments or repairs on space equipment. • It lands like an airplane • Space Shuttles were reusable. The names of the existing shuttles are: • Discovery • Atlantis • Endeavor Unfortunately, Challenger and Columbia are no longer part of the fleet because they were both in accidents.

  3. The Shuttle’s Boosters • The pair of solid rocket boosters are the first to die out and two minutes after launch they fall back to the ocean where they are collected and reused.

  4. External Fuel Tank • The orange external fuel tank burns up in the atmosphere when it is finished.

  8. Payload Bay • Sometimes the Payload Bay holds objects to be delivered into space, such as satellites. Some satellites take pictures of Earth and space, others receive and send signals like television or telephone signals.

  10. The black tiles protect the shuttle From the friction heat of re-entry to Earth

  11. The shuttle is smaller than a large Air plane and would piggy-back to Florida If it had to land in California.
